Overview

The State Code of Florida requires that all municipalities and counties within the state enforce the most current (5th edition, 2014, effective 06/30/15) Florida Building Code, including Building, Residential and Existing Building Codes, at a minimum. Sec. 5-22. – Basic wind speed.

For the purposes of complying with the structural requirements related to wind loads, all buildings and structures shall be designed for a minimum wind load of one hundred twenty (120) miles per hour in accordance with Figure 1606 of the Florida Building Code. With regard to the compliance with criteria relating to protection from wind borne debris, this city is deemed to be located landward of the one hundred ten (110) miles per hour wind contour line in Figure 1606 and therefore, buildings within this city are not required to have openings protected from wind borne debris except for critical facilities which voluntarily provide protection of openings from wind borne debris.
